Code of Conduct for  NSW Committee and its representatives

Representations to NSW Government and Opposition

Each State Committee of AIIA may develop and maintain close relationships with Ministers and Opposition Ministers and relevant officials in the State Government.

Submissions should be well considered and restricted to serious and significant issues relevant to the industry, not just to individual companies.

Representations may be made directly to officials in positions of authority in writing or by an industry delegation. Third parties should not be involved.

The AIIA Secretariat is available for consultation and advice and will participate in lobbying activities on request and where appropriate. Copies of any written representations should be provided to the AIIA Secretariat.

Delegations by NSW committee and its Representatives

NSW Committee delegations to Ministers, Ministerial staff or government officials must have a clearly defined purpose and have been agreed to by the NSW Committee.

The delegation will consist of more than one person, of AIIA members only, and will be led by a person nominated by the NSW Committee.

A member of the AIIA Secretariat should accompany NSW Committee delegations to Ministers, Ministerial staff orgovernment officials.

As a general rule, NSW Committee members on Association business are not to meet individually with Ministers, Ministerial staff or government officials.

Where they do, they are to make it clear whether it is Association business or company business they are discussing.

NSW Committee delegations are to report to the NSW Committee as soon as possible after meetings with Ministers, Ministerial staff or government officials.

Avoidance of conflicts of interest

NSW Committee representatives in meetings with Ministers, Ministerial staff or government officials are to withdraw or to declare a conflict of interest when a matter is discussed which their company has submitted, or is likely to submit, a tender or contract for government business.

NSW Committee representatives are eligible to tender for AIIA projects. However, they are to absent themselves from meetings where discussion or selection of grants is taking place.

Handling of Personal and Confidential Information

From time to time, Personal Information (as defined in the various Australian Privacy Acts) and confidential information may be disclosed to members in their capacity as Committee members. Committee members must treat such information strictly in accordance with relevant laws and must not access, use or disclose such information for any purpose other than authorised Committee business, except where specifically permitted by AIIA’s CEO in writing.
