Government Business Taskforce

Government Business Taskforce

The Government Business Taskforce (GBTF) spearheads AIIA's procurement policy development and implementation strategy. Led by AIIA Directors John Grant, Managing Director of Data#3, and Lynda Chapman, Managing Director of Avoga, the key priorities of the taskforce are to improve government business opportunities for members and reduce the cost of participation in government markets.

Doing business with government is a key objective for many ICT companies in Australia. Government is the largest buyer in Australia, with the Commonwealth Government alone  spending an estimated $3.5 billion annually on ICT across 35,000 contracts. Moreover, winning government business can give companies an opportunity to implement innovative solutions and subsequently prove important in winning further business both in Australia and export markets.

Objectives

Winning government business can be complex and costly. One of AIIA's key priorities is to improve government business opportunities for members and reduce the cost of participation in all government markets. In order to achieve this objective, AIIA actively lobbies in all Australian jurisdictions for changes to procurement policy, offers members tools to assist their business and conducts a national series of events giving members an opportunity to meet with government buyers and learn of opportunities.

Over the last year, AIIA’s lobbying was instrumental in obtaining capped liability in the Commonwealth and changes to liability, intellectual property and insurance in Victoria. AIIA’s involvement in the negotiation of ICT contractual frameworks, particularly in NSW, Queensland and Western Australia, has also ensured that these contracts better reflect industry’s interests.

Current issues

AIIA members are invited to raise any government procurement issue with AIIA at any time.  AIIA is presently engaged in the following government procurement issues:
